Week #12 – All Good Things Must Come to an End… Or Must They??

Even as I write this post I am accutely aware of the fact that in less than 48 hours my Spring 2011 semester will be OVER!

Don’t get me wrong. I really enjoyed this semester – particularly this class. But the spring weather is calling my name and I am more than willing to answer the call!

But what does this sudden departure from the regular academia check ins really mean for me? And more importantly, what does it mean for this blog??

Well, I’ll be honest and say right up front that my hopes for this particular blog are rather slim. I created it specifically for this class, and while I may be tempted to post up here at some point, I wouldn’t advise you to hold your breath on that one!

But that’s not to say that I’m giving up on blogging completely. In fact, just the opposite. You see, what I’ve learned most from our social media class is the importance of providing regular, rich content for your audience so that they are inspired to keep coming back again and again.

You may remember, I have this other blog that is a little more dear and near to my heart. But I struggled with finding the time to write up there regularly. I see now that part of the reason was because I spent a lot of time writing like I was writing a newspaper article and not a blog post. That’s the second piece that I’ve learned from this class (and this blog). By allowing myself a little more freedom and flexibility in my writing, I can afford to be more spontaneous and therefore I feel more comfortable posting something up that (while might not be suitable for a document going to a client) is the perfect place for me to dump my thoughts and musings.

Yes, this class and our weekly blogging assignment has been a rewarding challenge and I am excited to take the tricks of the trade that I’ve learned here and apply them to my personal blog. In fact, I take back what I said earlier. I will post at least one more blog to this site…  the one were I unveil my revamped personal blog and show of my steller skills!

But for now, it’s about that time…

Until next time…

(I couldn’t resist.. just one more!)

Response # 6 – Bills, Bills, Bills… Netflix!

On her blog, the Francesca Files, the author shares some of her favorite books and even invites others to help her decide what her next read should be!

There was a time when I used to read, read and read some more for pleasure… these days, I’m more likely to plop in front of my laptop screen, get comfy in my bed and watch a good movie or two on a rainy afternoon.

Given this, you can only imagine my excitement when this little puppy comes in the mail every couple of days:

It is the regular, little highlight of my weekend. A bit of joy and excitement that almost always puts me in a good mood.

Just recently, I watched Robin Hood (the version with Russell Crowe). It was fantastic! Check out the trailer:

Another movie that I just watched and really enjoyed (which sorta surprised me) was Just Wright with Queen Latifah and Common:

It’s a light and funny love story. Just the right mix to put you in a good mood.

Want a movie that will really make you think?? Check out The Virgin Suicides. Don’t let the title scare you. It’s a real coming of age type of film that addresses some really interesting themes:

This is another one that surprised me with how good it was. I think that’s mostly because I always have to give a side-eye to films that are heavily promoted by family. Of course YOUR gonna say this is a great film to go watch… but I have to see it for myself to be sure. Thankfully, The Karate Kid didn’t disappoint and actually exceeded my expectations:

And while I questioned Jaden Smith’s acting chops, turns out the talent didn’t fall far from the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith tree (not to mention Willow).

Response #5 – It’s Not Mother’s Day, But…

I stumbled upon The Snarky Beagle the other day and came across Liz’s post on why her mom is the best. Which got me thinking… my mom is a rather cool dudette herself! In fact, I think SHE’s the best. And here’s why:

She’s the nicest person you’ll ever meet. I realize a lot of people say things like that about a lot of different people. In fact, people ususally say that this woman was super nice:

But trust me. Mother T ain’t got NOTHIN’ on my momma!

When I say that she is THE NICEST, I really, really mean it. Could it be because she grew up in a house with 8 siblings and had to learn at an early age the masterful skill of diplomacy in order to get a place at the table for dinner time. Perhaps. All I know is that my mom is the type of woman who regularly puts other people ahead of herself without complaint and with a smile. She’s just super nice that way.

She’s funny. Okay, when I say my mom is funny, I don’t mean that you’ll find her on the next episode of SNL, but she has this humor about her that is unreal. More witty and sarcastic than slapstick or crude. But spend a few minutes with her and you’ll be in stitches laughing… either with her, at her or at yourself!

She can cook. I already know some people who won’t believe this one. See, my mother has ‘earned’ this reputation for not cooking the way some people earn a Nobel Peace Prize. BUT, she can cook when she feels so inclined. You just have to catch her in the right mood. 40 days after every full moon seems to be at just the right time according to my calendar…

She’ll pray for you. This is probably the most important reason why my mom is the best. I can always count on her to get a prayer through if I’m going through a difficult time or just need some extra guidance and wisdom from the Lord. She’s my true blue prayer partner in that respect – something that I really, really appreciate!
